:: HOW I GOT HERE - page 2:: |

Finishing up in England I started sending out resumes.
By the end of April I've sent out more then 150 c.v.'s to european airlines only. Out of all those applications I only received about 20 rsvp's and all of them
stated that they currently had no position available for someone with my qualifications, but that I would remain in their database for 6 months.
I decided that my approach needed a little change so I bought a nice suite. Printed out some resumes and
started driving to all the airports in the "neighbourhood" and started knocking on doors. Though most of the companies appreciated my effort, there was not even a job opening
for baggage handling. Meanwhile bills still had to be paid and I had some part time jobs outside of aviation.
September 2004 I received a call from KLM Exel. The HR lady asked if I was available for a job interview on thursday (she called on tuesday). I said that I would make time if I had any other plans, which I didn't ofcourse. Also asked her if this was for a flying position since I also applied for a cabin crew position.
She started laughing and informed me it was for a firt officer position. The funny thing is that I got denied for a cabin crew position, because I was too young !
I did well on the interview and was invited to continue to the next round which was a psychological examination and a simulator exam in a
Boeing 737 simulator (FNPTII for those who are wondering). After the grading I was told that I would receive a call from Exel within 2 weeks. They called me that same night and offered me a job as a First Officer
on the Embraer 145.
Finally after all my efforts, my first job and on a jet ! Popped a bottle of champagne and celebrated in disbelief.
